Revere scores early run to give Nats head start (Nats win 8-2)

MIAMI - The Nationals did a nice job of manufacturing a run in the first inning to go up on the Marlins in the series finale.

Ben Revere singled to lead off the first inning for the second game in a row. He stole second for his first stolen base of the season. Jayson Werth grounded out to second to move Revere to third.

Bryce Harper then lofted a ball to shallow center field. Marcell Ozuna's throw home was way over the head of catcher Jeff Mathis. Revere slid home safely and the Nationals lead 1-0.

The Marlins' Ichiro Suzuki singled in the bottom of the first. It was his fifth hit in the series. Suzuki now has 2,955 hits in his career.

After one and a half innings, the Nationals lead 1-0.

Update: Daniel Murphy hit a run-scoring single and Anthony Rendon hit an RBI double to lift the Nationals to a 3-0 lead. It could have been more, as during the inning Harper was caught off second base and Danny Espinosa struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. Revere now has two singles, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Heading to the bottom of the third, the Nationals lead the Marlins 3-0.

Update II: Espinosa adds a RBI single and then Revere puts the signature on a great game with a two-run single and the Nationals double up their lead 6-0 in the top of the sixth.

Revere now has three hits, two runs, two stolen bases and two RBIs.

Adam Conley's day is done for the Marlins. He finished 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, all earned, seven walks and two strikeouts.

Update III: Justin Bour delivered a two-run homer, his second homer in as many games, to get the Marlins on the board, cutting the Nationals lead to 6-2. Scherzer got out of the seventh with the lead in tact.

Update IV: Rendon with an opposite field two-run triple and the Nationals extended their lead to 8-2. Rendon finishes with a double and a triple and three RBI.

Scherzer finishes eight innings, scattering six hits and allowing a two-run homer with no walks and eight strikeouts. Oliver Perez and Blake Treinen combined to pitch a scoreless ninth.

The Nationals win the series over the Marlins. Final score: the Nationals 8, the Marlins 2.
