Right Side 5K Run on the calendar

Nick Markakis's Right Side Foundation has announced that their second annual 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk will be held on Sunday, August 8. The Orioles will take on the Chicago White Sox earlier that day, and Nick will head to Patterson Park later that evening to join his wife and foundation partner, Christina, for the 5K run and 1-mile walk. Interested runners (or walkers, families, or other O's fans) can register online at www.CharmCityRun.com or by calling Kelly Dees at 410.308.1870. Early registration (those signed up by June 30) is $25, while all other pre-registration (July 1 through August 7) is $30. Participants can register the day of the event, but for $35. The registration fee includes a free race shirt and gift bag (though walk-up registrants are not guaranteed a shirt or gift pack). Race packets will be available for pick-up starting Saturday, August 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Charm City Run Store at 2045 York Road in Timonium, Md. Race day registration and packet pick-up will begin at 4:30 p.m. on August 8 in Patterson Park. The race will officially begin at 6:00 p.m. as runners take off on the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) loop around Patterson Park. The 1-mile fun walk will also begin at 6:00 p.m. At the conclusion of the race, Nick and Christina will present awards to the overall top three male and female finishers, with additional awards going to male and female winners in several age categories. Funds generated from the event will benefit the Right Side Foundation, the Markakis's nonprofit organization established to help improve the lives of distressed children in Maryland.
