Roark roughed up in first (Nats fall 6-2)

The first inning was a nightmare for Nats starter Tanner Roark. The Reds scored five runs on five hits to jump out early in Sunday's finale. Billy Hamilton doubled, Scooter Gennett singled and Joey Votto singled. Gennett's hit was a RBI knock. A Bryce Harper throwing error allowed Gennett to come home.

The Nats looked like they would get back in the game quickly in the bottom of the first. After a strikeout, Brian Goodwin singled. Harper then singled. A wild pitch got the runners to second and third. But Daniel Murphy flew out to left and Anthony Rendon was called out on strikes to end the threat.

After one inning, Reds 5, Nats 0.

Update: Gennett cranked a solo homer in the second, his 11th roundtripper of the season, well over the right field wall and into the Nats bullpen. After two innings, the Reds lead 6-0.

Update II: Michael A. Taylor's red-hot weekend continues with a two-run shot in the fourth. Adam Lind got on with a single against Reds starter Scott Feldman. Taylor followed with his 11th homer on the season and homer in two games. The Reds lead the Nats 6-2 after four innings.

Update III: Roark's day is done. Despite a rough first frame, he managed to hold the Reds to just one run in the next five innings. Roark allowed six runs on nine hits over six innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts. He fired 116 pitches, 79 for strikes. The Reds lead the Nats by four after six innings. Matt Grace is pitching the seventh.

Update IV: In the ninth, reliever Raisel Iglesias struck out Taylor. Pinch-hitter Stephen Drew flew out to center field. Ryan Zimmerman, who came into the game as part of a double switch in the top of the ninth, lined out to center field to end the game.

The Reds beat the Nats 6-2.
