Roberts homers twice in O's win at Chicago

Brian Roberts hit two homers in a game for just the second time in his career as the Orioles beat the White Sox 5-1 in Chicago in game one of a three-game series. Roberts, who has 14 homers on the year, has now homered in three straight games. He has hit four homers over the last three games and five homers in his last six games. Roberts hit a solo homer off Gavin Floyd in the 3rd and his two-run shot off Floyd in the 8th broke a 1-1 tie.

The O's made it a 5-1 game in that 8th when Nick Markakis added an RBI triple and Ty Wigginton chipped in with an RBI single. Roberts' other career two-homer game was on 9-6-06 at Los Angeles. Winning pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, now 8-12, 5.45, gave up just one run and six hits over seven innings. It's his first win since he also beat the Sox on July 19. Jim Thome hit a solo homer for Chicago, the 564th of his career, in the 4th inning. It was his 29th career homer off Baltimore pitching. Losing pitcher Gavin Floyd, now 10-8, 3.98, gave up four runs and seven hits over 7 1/3 innings. The O's are now 2-2 on this road trip and 4-3 this season vs. Chicago.
