Schedule set this week for Orioles-Marlins games at Camden Yards

The weather may have the final word this week, but the Orioles learned when they're supposed to play the Marlins at Camden Yards.

This is pure 2020.

The games on Tuesday and Thursday will begin at 7:35 p.m. However, the Orioles will be the home team for the first and the Marlins for the last.

In between are a pair of seven-inning games in a Wednesday doubleheader. Its first game starts at 5:05 p.m. and the nightcap begins approximately 30 minutes after the last out.

Here's where it gets kooky. The Orioles are the home team for the opener and the road team for the second game - in their own ballpark.

The arrangement exists because two games in Miami and two at Camden Yards were postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 among the Marlins.

Tests came back negative again today, according to reports, and the Marlins are cleared to enter Baltimore.

Wojciechowski-Throws-White-Opener-Sidebar.jpgStarters for the four-game series will be announced later today. Asher Wojciechowski would be working on one day of extra rest if given the ball in the series opener. John Means would be on regular rest, but manager Brandon Hyde might want to push him back after the left-hander began the season on the injured list.

All four games will air on MASN and the Orioles Radio Network.

Club officials will continue to monitor the track and possible impact of Hurricane Isaias, which could again jumble the schedule and rotation.

The reduction of doubleheader games to seven innings is another change borrowed from the minors as a safety measure.

"I think it's great for this year. I really do," reliever Travis Lakins Sr., who appeared in 40 games last summer with Triple-A Pawtucket, said in yesterday's Zoom conference call.

"I think just this short amount of time, two nine-inning games in one day is a long day. So I love the two-game seven-inning games. I'm excited to see how it goes."

Update: Means is starting Tuesday, Alex Cobb and Wojciechowski Wednesday and Wade LeBlanc Thursday. Whether Cobb starts Game 1 or 2 is undetermined.
