Strasburg all-time Nats leader in innings pitched (Nats win 5-0)

MIAMI - Marlins shortstop Miguel Rojas' groundout to short in the bottom of the second inning lifted Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg to 1,253 2/3 innings pitched, making him the all-time leader in innings pitched with the organization (2005-present).

Left-hander Gio Gonzalez held the mark at 1,253 1/3 frames for his work from 2012-2018. Strasburg also now has 211 career starts, two away from Gonzalez's team lead of 213.

Strasburg-Winds-Red-sidebar.jpgStrasburg allowed a two-out single to Brian Anderson in the first inning. Neil Walker drew a base on balls. Anderson went to third on Kurt Suzuki's passed ball. But Starlin Castro flew out to center field to end the threat.

Marlins starter Trevor Richards has been solid through three innings, allowing only singles to Suzuki and Adam Eaton.

Strasburg has four strikeouts in three innings: Curtis Granderson twice, Lewis Brinson and Trevor Richards.

Update: Ryan Zimmerman broke the ice in the fourth with a towering fly ball over the left field wall. The solo homer, his second of the season, came on a 3-2 pitch.

Update II: Eaton and Victor Robles singled to begin the sixth. They moved up a base following Richards' wild pitch. With one out, Howie Kendrick rocked a line drive to deep center field that was caught by Brinson. Eaton scored on the sacrifice fly.

Update IV: In the seventh, Brian Dozier cranked his second homer of the series, third of the season. The solo shot went over the left field wall to extend the Nats' lead.

Update V: Zimmerman homered again. His second solo shot of the game came in the ninth off of Marlins reliever Tyler Kinley. He now has 26 multi-homer games in his career.

Wilmer Difo added an RBI single off of Marlins reliever Wei-Yin Chen that scored Suzuki. Suzuki finished with a double and a single.

Strasburg pitched eight shutout innings, allowing only two hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts. He threw 104 pitches, 67 for strikes.

Mid-ninth, the Nats lead 5-0 over the Marlins.

Update VI: Nats reliever Kyle Barraclough struck out Granderson. Granderson finished 0-for-4 with 4 strikeouts. Martín Prado also struck out swinging. Brian Anderson and Neil Walker were walked.

Sean Doolittle relieved Barraclough. Castro reached on an error by Kendrick at third base. The bases were loaded. Miguel Rojas flew out to right field to end the game.

Final score: the Nats 5, the Marlins 0.

The final score marks the second Nats shutout of the season. The club imrpoves to 10-10 as they head to Denver.
