The last time the O's swept three at home from Boston.......

I find it amazing, but the Orioles last three-game sweep over the Red Sox in Baltimore, was from September 2-4, 1974. Now the O's last swept four from Boston at home in July of 1998. But the last three-game home sweep came during the 1974 season when the O's had Al Bumbry and Rich Coggins at the top of the lineup. Here is something also pretty amazing. That three-game sweep in 1974 came via three consecutive, complete-game shutouts. In game one of a doubleheader on Monday, September 2, Ross Grimsley pitched a 3-hit, 1-0 win over Boston, outdueling Luis Tiant in an hour and 53 minutes. The O's also won the second game, 1-0. In that one, Mike Cueller pitched a 2-hitter and beat Bill Lee. Maybe it rained the next day, because game three of that series is listed as on September 4 at baseball-reference.com. In that one, Jim Palmer pitched a 3-hitter, besting the Sox 6-0. The times of the games were 1:53, 1:49 and 2:15. A three-game sweep in which the O's did not use the bullpen and allowed just eight total hits. The three games were played in under six hours. That club went 23-6 in September to finish 91-71 and win the AL East. The O's lost three games to one to Oakland in the ALCS. Here's another interesting note. After that series, the O's went to Cleveland and pitched two more shutouts for a total of five in a row. Now, that's a trip down memory lane.
