Three-man booth on weekend O's-Nats broadcasts will feature Hunter, Flanagan

When the Orioles travel to Washington, D.C., to face the Nationals in an interleague series beginning Friday night, MASN viewers will again have the opportunity to enjoy a rarity in broadcast sports television: a three-man booth featuring a collection of play-by-play announcers and color analysts from both teams. Orioles play-by-play veteran Jim Hunter and his D.C. counterpart, Bob Carpenter, will both call portions of the game. Carpenter will work the first two and a half innings, followed by Hunter through the seventh inning, with Carpenter finishing up the games. On the color side, former Orioles pitcher Mike Flanagan and new Nationals commentator - and former big leaguer - F.P. Santangelo will both be in the booth for the duration of each game of the weekend series. They will add their team-specific insights and draw on their personal experiences to take fans inside the clubs they regularly cover. "Since MASN broadcasts both the Nationals and Orioles, it was a natural to devise a hybrid booth utilizing the best talent from both announcing teams for interleague meetings between the two clubs," said Chris Glass, MASN's vice president for operations and productions. "No one knows their teams better than Bob Carpenter and Jim Hunter, and having them switch off play-by-play duties during the game gives our audience the unique opportunity to get a different perspective from each announcer. Having a former major league hitter in F.P. Santangelo and a Cy Young Award-winning pitcher in Mike Flanagan means our fans will be treated to the kind of insider knowledge that only ex-players can deliver."
