RHP Jason Berken (2-11, 6.72) today makes his 17th start of this season, his 8th on the road and his 2nd of the year vs. Chicago. Berken gave up five runs over 5 2/3 innings Tuesday to take the loss at Tampa. Over four August starts, he is 1-3, 8.50. Right-handed batters and left-handed hitters are both batting .322 vs. Berken. The Orioles are 3-13 when he starts. Berken has allowed 17 of his 57 runs and a batting average against of .371 in the first innings of his starts. He took the loss July 17th at Chicago, in his only previous appearance vs. the Sox. In 4 1/3 innings, he gave up seven hits and six runs, including two homers. LHP Mark Buehrle (11-6, 3.78) today will make his 26th start of this season, his 16th at home and the 12th in his career vs. Baltimore. On July 23rd, Buehrle pitched the 17th perfect game in the regular season in Major League history. He fanned six, throwing 116 pitches in that outing vs. the Tampa Bay Rays. He has not won since that game. Over the last five starts since, he is 0-3, 5.85. In 15 home starts, Buehrle is 7-3, 3.49. The Sox are 16-9 when he starts this year.
