Today's pitchers: Tillman vs. Cecil

RHP Chris Tillman (0-0, 6.75) today will make his third Major League start of this season and the first of his career vs. Toronto. In his Major League debut, July 29 vs. KC, Tillman gave up three runs in 4 2/3. Monday at Detroit, he allowed five runs over six innings. Through those two starts, right-handed batters are hitting .304 vs. Tillman and lefties are batting .333. The Orioles are 1-1 in the two starts. In 18 starts earlier at Triple-A Norfolk, he went 8-6, 2.70 and allowed 2ER or less in 13 of 18 starts. At the time of his recall he was 4th in the International League in strikeouts and 7th in ERA. Tillman started the Futures Game for the U.S. team July 12th in St. Louis and gave up two first-inning runs. LHP Brett Cecil (5-1, 4.36) today makes his 12th start of the year, his 6th at home and his 2nd of the season vs. the Orioles. The 23-year-old is a Dematha High graduate and played college ball at the University of Maryland. He was taken with the 38th overall selection in the 2007 draft. The rookie has pitched very well recently. Over his last four starts, he is 3-0, 1.67. Cecil has worked seven innings in three straight starts. The Jays are 6-5 when he takes the mound. Cecil has struggled early in games, giving up 15 of his 33 runs in the first two innings and a batting average against of .355 in the first two frames. He has recorded a quality start in 7 of 11 starts. In five home starts, Cecil is 2-0, 3.03. He pitched six shutout innings July 10th at Baltimore, in his only previous outing vs. the Orioles. He was the winning pitcher that night, allowing just four singles and throwing 96 pitches.
