Tonight's pitchers: Hernandez vs. Carmona

RHP David Hernandez (4-8, 5.34) tonight will make his 18th start of the season, his 9th on the road and his 2nd of the year vs. Cleveland. Hernandez had been struggling, but put together a decent start last Saturday at home vs. Boston. He did not get a decision and over six innings allowed seven hits and three runs. He threw 93 pitches. Hernandez, home runs allowed: *4 over his first 7 starts *20 over his last 10 starts Hernandez has allowed ten homers in 16 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He has allowed at least one homer in ten straight starts, giving up 20 total in that span. In eight road starts, he is 2-4, 5.40. Hernandez has made one career start vs. Cleveland and did not get a decision at home August 27th. In six innings he gave up five hits and two runs, throwing 102 pitches. RHP Fausto Carmona (3-12, 6.89) tonight makes his 23rd start of this year, his 12th at home and the 7th in his career vs. Baltimore. Carmona lost his last start, Sunday vs. Oakland, giving up 7ER and 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. Over his last three starts, he is 0-3, 13.11. Carmona spent some time in the minors this year. In July, at Triple-A Columbus, he went 1-3, 3.55 in five starts. In 10 starts since his return from the minors, he is 1-6, 6.27. The Indians are 8-14 when Carmona starts, losing seven of his last eight outings. The 25-year-old from the Dominican has struggled early in his starts. Carmona has given up 44 of his 89 runs this year in the first two innings of his starts. He has allowed nine of his 15 homers then with a batting average against of .342. In 11 home starts, he is 1-6, 5.13.
