Tuesday night baseball: O's at Tampa

Game Preview Orioles (60-96) at Tampa (80-76) You need to get 27 outs to win a baseball game. The way the O's bullpen is performing recently, those final few outs have been hard to pick up. The O's pen blew a 7th-inning, 6-3 lead Monday night and Tampa beat the Orioles 7-6 extending the season's longest losing streak to 11 games. That's no where near the club record 21-game streak set in 1988, but it is the 6th losing streak of 11 or more games in franchise history. The last time the O's lost 12 in a row was from August 16-28, 2004. During the 11 straight losses: *The O's have been out-scored 77-35 *The O's team ERA is 6.58 *The opponents batting average is .319 *The O's team batting average is .252 *The starters ERA is 6.71 *The bullpen ERA is 6.42 *The O's have lost five times by two runs or less The Orioles have also lost 13 of the last 15 and 19 of 25 games. They are 12-24 over the past 36 contests. Matt Wieters had three hits Monday for the 3rd time in nine games. Over the last 14 games, Wieters is hitting .434-3-14. Luke Scott is 8 for 17 during a four-game hitting streak. Nick Markakis is just 7 for 55 (.127) with just 3 RBI over his last 15 games. Brian Roberts has 55 doubles on the year. He has three over his last nine games, but none in the past five contests. He needs five doubles to tie Charlie Gehringer for most-ever in a season by a second baseman. Gehringer had 60 in 1936. Roberts has 106 doubles the past two years. Roberts has 78 RBI on the year, a new career high, topping his 73 in 2005. He hit his 16th homer of the year Monday, that's two shy of his career best mark for homers he set in 2005. The O's are 7-8 on the year vs. Tampa, including a mark of 2-4 on the road. They are 20-46 vs. AL East teams, 14-19 at home and 6-27 on the road. Tampa has now won back-to-back games by 7-6 scores with late-inning comebacks. The Rays are 8-5 since the end of an 11-game losing streak. Tampa is 48-27 at home this year and is 20-27 since August 7th.
