Week 1 AFL update: Glendale Desert Dogs

The Glendale Desert Dogs are 2-3 and one game out of first place in the West Division of the Arizona Fall League. After starting 2-1, they have dropped two games in a row.

Third baseman Drew Ward is hitting .444 (4-for-9) with a double, an RBI, two walks and two strikeouts in three games.

Shortstop Osvaldo Abreu is hitting .273 (3-for-11) with a double and three RBIs in three games.

Glendale-Desert-Dogs.jpgCenter fielder Andrew Stevenson is hitting .250 (3-for-12) with a homer, six RBIs and one stolen base. He has struck out four times.

Left-hander Nick Lee has appeared in three innings over two games, allowing two hits and one run (unearned) with four walks and five strikeouts.

Right-handed starter Austin Voth (0-1) got hit a bit in his first start, allowing five runs on 2 2/3 innings. He did get Mets outfielder Tim Tebow to roll over a grounder to second base in their only matchup.

Voth makes his second start today versus Peoria.

Right-hander Jake Johansen has allowed one run in two innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

Right-hander Ryan Brinley has fired 1 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. He has not allowed any hits and has struck out two with no walks.
