Wrapping up the eighth day of workouts

SARASOTA, Fla. - Yovani Gallardo will throw his first bullpen session with the Orioles on Saturday.

The intrasquad game on Saturday has been moved to 12:30 p.m. on the Camden Yards replica field. It's open to the public. Same as the workouts.

The pitchers listed for the game include Zach Britton, Brian Matusz, Parker Bridwell, Mychal Givens and Andy Oliver for one team, and Ubaldo Jimenez, Odrisamer Despaigne, Chaz Roe, Dale Thayer and Andrew Triggs for the other team.

The Sunday intrasquad game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. on the main field and is closed to the public. The pitchers in order are Chris Tillman, Kevin Gausman, Jason Garcia, Brad Brach, Todd Redmond and Cesar Cabral for one team, and Miguel Gonzalez, T.J. McFarland, Dylan Bundy, Vance Worley, Hunter Harvey and Ashur Tolliver for the other team.

Each pitcher will be limited to around 15 pitches.

Manager Buck Showalter and pitching coach Dave Wallace are setting up the schedule. Wright and Wilson are the early favorites.

Both pitchers threw to hitters today on the Camden Yards replica field. A few guys swung the bat instead of just tracking.

Mark Trumbo worked out in right field today. Showalter quickly pointed out to the media that Trumbo would have been out there anyway "regardless of what happened in the last 24 hours." It had nothing to do with the Dexter Fowler deal falling apart.

"There's no question that his arm will certainly play out there. That's an above-average arm. He can really throw," Showalter said.

"What I like is he's engaged in it, whether it's first base, right field, third base. He's into it. It's not like, 'OK, let's get this stuff out of the way. When do I hit?' I like what he brings. He's engaged in the competition."

Showalter also has favorable reports on Rule 5 outfielder Joey Rickard, who is living up to his reputation as a plus defender.

"He's athletic," Showalter said.

Left-hander Jeff Beliveau threw a bullpen session earlier and also continued to impress Showalter.

Nolan_Reimold-sidebar_swinging.jpgNolan Reimold played catch in the outfield, but he didn't do any throwing in the workout to rest his right shoulder.

"It was a little cranky from all the throwing. He skipped infield," Showalter said. "Did everything else. It doesn't bother him hitting. I think some of the problems he had with his shoulder last year toward the end, he just wants to be careful with it."

Jimmy Paredes worked out in the infield today and will return to the outfield on Saturday. Showalter wants to watch him play the outfield in exhibition games.

"He brings that potential bat, but it's about where he would impact us defensively, too," Showalter said. "We're going to move him around some. He needs to get some outfield play."

The reports on Paredes in the winter league said he did "pretty well out there," Showalter said.

Minor league catcher Jonah Heim continues to show off his defensive skills in workouts. He's a plus defender who intrigues Showalter.

"He's pretty impressive," Showalter said. "He can really catch. I don't know what he's going to do hitting-wise, but he can really catch."

Left-hander Chris Lee is wearing glasses - the protective goggles - after taking his eye exam as part of his physical.

"They detected something in the physical that should help him," Showalter said. "We weren't going to let him be swung off until he got those glasses in."

Wallace is wearing No. 16 after giving his No. 37 to Dylan Bundy, who gave his No. 49 to Gallardo. For those of you keeping score at home.
