Matusz done for the day

Today’s attendance: 27,774.

The pitch count caught up to Brian Matusz again today.

Matusz left with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning. Matt Albers replaced him and induced a ground ball from Bill Hall on a 3-1 count.

Matusz allowed two runs and four hits in 5 2/3 innings - just short of a quality start - with four walks and seven strikeouts. He threw 117 pitches, 73 for strikes.

One of those walks was intentional, with first base open and two outs in the sixth, but Adrian Beltre also walked to end Matusz’s day.

Down at Triple-A Norfolk, Brandon Snyder is 3-for-3 with an RBI and has raised his average to .243. Rhyne Hughes is 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Jeff Salazar hit his eighth home run.
