Viola joining Orioles

Pedro Viola will join the Orioles in New York as an extra bullpen arm, further expanding their September roster.

Viola is on the 40-man roster, so no corresponding move is necessary.

Double-A Bowie’s season ended today with a loss to Richmond. Viola was notified after the game that the Orioles had recalled him.

Viola went 0-2 with a 17.65 ERA, 10 walks and eight strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings at Triple-A Norfolk before moving down to Bowie. He was 3-4 with a 3.59 ERA, 19 walks and 64 strikeouts in 62 2/3 innings with the Baysox.

Also, it’s possible that David Hernandez could return to the Orioles after another scoreless inning today with Bowie. He seems to be recovered from the sprained left ankle that forced him on the disabled list.
