A few pregame notes

WASHINGTON - The Orioles lead the all-time series against the Nationals 24-19, going 13-8 in Baltimore and 11-11 in Washington (3-3 at RFK Stadium and 8-8 at Nationals Park) since the franchise was relocated from Montreal in 2005.

Manny Machado has posted at least three hits in eight road games this year, the most in the majors. Jed Lowrie and James Loney had collected three hits in seven road games.

According to STATS, the Orioles are hitting .300 on the road in May, their highest road batting average in a calendar month since Aug. of 2008 (.311).

Nick Markakis has hit safely in 12 straight games, batting .377 (20-for-53) with 11 RBIs. With a hit tonight, Markakis would tie J.J. Hardy for the longest hitting streak of the year by an Oriole (13 games from May 3-18).

Hardy has hit in 20 of his last 22 games, batting .307 (27-for-88) with six home runs and 16 RBIs.

Machado (23), Chris Davis (18), and Adam Jones (17) have each hit more doubles through 51 games than any other Oriole since 1954 in the Baltimore era. The previous high was 16 by five players, most recently Markakis in 2009.

Machado has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 road games, batting .412 (38-for-90) with three homers, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He’s hit in nine of his last 10 road games, going 23-for-50 (.460) with seven doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and nine runs scored.

Machado has the most hits on the road in the majors with 48. Jones is second in the majors with 42.

Machado is tied with Miguel Cabrera for the most hits in the majors (75) and leads the majors with 23 doubles and 23 multi-hit games.

The Orioles lead the American League with a .990 fielding percentage are are second in the majors behind the Diamondbacks (.991).

Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Jason Pridie has been activated from the disabled list and reliever Daniel McCutchen has been activated from the restricted list.

Friday: Miguel Gonzalez vs. Max Scherzer
Saturday: Jason Hammel vs. Justin Verlander
Sunday: Kevin Gausman vs. Rick Porcello

Gausman is the first player chosen in the opening round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft to reach the majors, and the third from that class, along with Dodgers left-hander Pack Rodriguez (82nd overall pick) and Angels left-hander Michael Roth (297th overall). Rodriguez debuted Sept. 9, 2012 and Roth debuted April 13, 2013.
