Orioles and Red Sox lineups

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, in an 0-for-15 slump, has been lowered to seventh in the order tonight. Steve Pearce will bat second.

Obviously, Machado is continuing to appeal his five-game suspension. There was talk that he might drop it today.

Adam Jones returns to center field after serving as the designated hitter in the last two games.

Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is making his 10th career start against the Red Sox, having gone 3-3 with a 5.26 ERA in 49 2/3 innings. He’s 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA against them at Camden Yards.

This season, Chen is 1-1 with a 5.91 ERA in 10 2/3 innings versus the Red Sox. He allowed four earned runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings in an April 3 start in Baltimore.

Chen is 3-0 with three no-decisions in his last six starts this season.

Dustin Pedroia is 12-for-24 with five doubles and a triple against Chen, and Daniel Nava is 7-for-13 (.538) with a homer.

David Ortiz is 6-for-15 (.400) with a home run. Mike Napoli has only three hits in 15 at-bats, but they include a double and two home runs.

Chen’s lucky that Will Middlebrooks is on the disabled list. Middlebrooks is 8-for-19 (.421) against him.

Right-handers are batting .280 against Rubby De La Rosa in his career, while left-handers are hitting .236. Odd splits. He’s faced the Orioles once, allowing a run in two-thirds of an inning in relief at Camden Yards.
