Machado named AL Player of the Week (plus Orioles lineup)

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado has been named the American League’s Player of the Week.

Machado batted .385/.370/.885 (10-for-26) with a double, four home runs, 12 RBIs and four runs scored over six games. He hit two grand slams.

This is Machado’s third Player of the Week award, the last coming in June 2015.

Manny-Machado-arms-open-black-sidebar.jpgThe Orioles are the first AL team with three weekly winners this season. Machado joins Jonathan Schoop and Tim Beckham.

Schoop is batting .320 since the break and .349 with five doubles, seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 26 games against the American League West.

Chris Davis’ 123 home runs at Camden Yards rank third all-time behind Adam Jones’ 133 and Rafael Palmeiro’s 124.

Davis is 8-for-23 (.348) with a double, home run and six RBIs while batting seventh this year.

Alec Asher, recalled on Sunday, was named the International League’s Pitcher of the Week after tossing seven scoreless innings with only three hits allowed in his last start.

The other Boog Powell had his first career three-hit game yesterday and is now 7-for-18 (.389) in seven games since the Athletics recalled him from Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 11.

The starting time for the Sept. 10 game in Cleveland has been moved from 1:10 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. because it’s airing on ESPN - the Orioles first appearance on Sunday Night Baseball since Sept. 13, 2015 against the Royals.
