Orioles and Rays lineups

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Adam Jones is out of the Orioles’ lineup again for the second game of their series against the Rays. He also didn’t play last night.

Chris Davis returns and is the first baseman, with Trey Mancini serving as designated hitter.

Joey Rickard is in right field and Chance Sisco is catching.

David Hess will make his start after a football nailed him in the eye yesterday afternoon. Hess was questionable before being sent to an ophthalmologist, who determined that the rookie only had some inflammation around the eye.

The Rays are the right matchup for Hess, who’s gone 2-0 with a 2.79 ERA against them in four games. He’s made two starts at Tropicana Field and allowed three runs in 12 1/3 innings.

Matt Duffy is 4-for-9 with a double and home run against Hess. Joey Wendle is 4-for-5.

The Rays are starting rookie right-hander Diego Castillo, who’s come out of the bullpen in 31 of his 35 appearances. He’s the latest “opener” on the team.

Castillo hasn’t gone more than two innings in his four starts. He’s made two relief appearances against the Orioles and allowed two runs in two innings. Davis homered off him at Camden Yards.

Joey-Rickard-swing-orange-sidebar.jpgRickard is 13-for-30 (.433) with three doubles, one triple, four home runs and 17 RBIs in nine games against the Rays this season. He homered again last night, his two-run shot provided all of the Orioles’ offense.

“I can’t come up with a reason,” he said. “It’s just baseball. It’s one of those weird games. Every game, I just look for a pitch to hit, and I’ve got the barrel on a few against these guys.”

Left-hander Josh Rogers listed as Sunday’s starter while Alex Cobb is pushed back due to a blister on his pitching hand.
