Orioles lineup and more on Shepherd

NEW YORK - Renato Núñez is playing first base tonight as the Orioles continue their series against the Yankees and try to shake off yesterday’s doubleheader sweep.

Trey Mancini is the designated hitter and Anthony Santander is playing right field.

Jace Peterson continues to play left field. Jonathan Villar is leading off and playing shortstop.

Rio Ruiz, who had a two-run single and RBI grounder in Game 2, is the third baseman.

Chandler Shepherd has joined the Orioles after they optioned Evan Phillips last night. He’s a combined 1-10 with a 7.22 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 19 minor league games this season, the first eight with Triple-A Pawtucket. However, he’s allowed one earned run in his last two starts with Norfolk over 12 1/3 innings and has struck out 14 batters.

The Orioles recalled Shepherd on July 30 in San Diego, but he was optioned without getting in a game.

Means-Pitching-Back-at-TB-Gray-Sidebar.jpgLeft-hander John Means has faced the Yankees four times this season, including one start, and allowed five runs and 10 hits with 14 strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings.

Aaron Judge is 1-for-6 with four strikeouts. Gleyber Torres is 0-for-1.

Torres has hit 13 of his 26 home runs against the Orioles. He’s 24-for-58 (.414) against them and 90-for-345 (.260) against everyone else.

The 13 homers against an opponent in a single season leave him one shy of Lou Gehrig’s record versus the Indians in 1936.

Domingo Germán is 15-2 this season, but he’s also carrying a 4.05 ERA to go with a 1.119 WHIP in 109 innings. He has a 2.19 ERA and 0.973 WHIP in nine games at home and a 5.58 ERA and 1.240 WHIP in 11 games on the road.

Germán has made three starts against the Orioles this season and gone 3-0 with a 2.50 ERA and 0.944 WHIP in 18 innings.
