Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez goes for his 20th win today. He’s posted a 3.80 ERA and 1.345 WHIP in 33 starts over 196 1/3 innings.
Rodriguez’s 73 walks lead the American League.
Rodriguez had allowed one run or fewer in four consecutive starts before his most recent outing, when he faced the Rangers and surrendered seven runs and 11 hits in five innings. He’s 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 0.714 WHIP in three starts against the Orioles this season, allowing only three runs in 21 innings.
Trey Mancini is 10-for-28 (.357) with three doubles and two home runs against Rodriguez. He’s in left field today.
Trumbo is 5-for-26 (.192) with a home run. Chris Davis, who’s on the bench, is 5-for-29 (.172) with one home run and 15 strikeouts.
The Orioles are seeking their first sweep since Aug. 27-29, 2018 and first on the road since June 5-6, 2018 at Citi Field. Their last sweep of the Red Sox came on Aug. 25-27, 2017 at Fenway Park. That’s also their last series sweep of three games on the road.
