Orioles lineup vs. Rangers

DJ Stewart remains in left field and Ryan Mountcastle is the designated hitter as the Orioles begin a three-game series tonight against the Rangers in Arlington, Texas.

Stewart gets a turn batting third.

Trey Mancini is the cleanup hitter and Mountcastle continues to bat sixth.

Jorge López needs a good start. He’s allowed 11 runs and 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings and opponents have hit three home runs.

López has made one career start against the Rangers and he surrendered five runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The Orioles have lost eight of their last 10 games.

The pitchers do a great job just trying to hold the game. The offense right now is just a little off, but I know it’s going to be coming because we have very good hitters on the team and we’ll help the pitchers to win.”

Severino’s last trip to Arlington in 2019 produced a three-homer game on June 4, but the Rangers relocated to Globe Life Field after the season.

“I just want to play on that field again,” he said. “I don’t want to play in a new stadium.”

After facing three left-handed starters in the Mariners series, the Orioles get three right-handers in Texas.

Mike Foltynewicz, the Astros’ first-round pick in 2010, had a miserable spring training with nine earned runs (12 total) and 15 hits allowed in eight innings. He surrendered three home runs in his three starts. He’s 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA and 1.091 WHIP in two starts this month, and has walked six batters and surrendered three home runs in 11 innings.

Foltynewicz held the Padres to one run and two hits in seven innings in his last outing.

In his only career start against the Orioles, Foltynewicz allowed two runs and six hits with eight strikeouts in six innings. He was pitching for the Braves in 2015. Jonathan Schoop and J.J. Hardy homered.

Fun fact: Foltynewicz and Rio Ruiz were traded by the Astros to the Braves in January 2015 for Evan Gattis and James Hoyt. Ruiz is starting at second base tonight for the Orioles.
