Akin and Santander on injured list (plus lineups)

The Orioles placed left-hander Keegan Akin and outfielder Anthony Santander on the injured list this morning and recalled left-hander Alexander Wells and outfielder Ryan McKenna from Triple-A Norfolk. Wells is making his first major league start.

Akin was supposed to start this afternoon to close out the series against the Rays at Tropicana Field. He’s 0-5 with an 8.19 ERA and 1.800 WHIP in 13 games (eight starts). He’s allowing 12.5 hits per nine innings.

Santander has been playing on a sore left ankle since he sprained it in April. He’s batting .231/.280/.387 with 17 doubles, six home runs and 26 RBIs in 62 games.

The Orioles didn’t announce the injuries, only the roster moves.

McKenna was optioned yesterday with left-hander John Means reinstated from the injured list.

Austin Hays is in right field and DJ Stewart is starting in left. Austin Wynns is catching Wells.

The Orioles have lost 13 of their last 15 games to the Rays.

The Orioles are 3-43 when scoring three runs or fewer. They went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position last night and are batting .239 (178-for-746) this season.

Michael Wacha faced the Orioles on June 13 at Tropicana Field and allowed one run and two hits in two innings. He has a 5.14 ERA and 1.353 WHIP this season in 16 games (11 starts).
