A pair of rising stars in the Nationals system have been selected to participate in the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game Sunday, July 15, at Nationals Park.
Kieboom was rated by MLB.com as the Nationals’ No. 3 prospect and by Baseball America as the organization’s No. 4 prospect. He was selected in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Garcia was ranked at the beginning the 2018 season by Baseball America as the No. 6 prospect in the Nats system and by MLB.com as the No. 9 prospect.
Several members of the Nationals minor league and player development staff will serve on the coaching staffs for the Futures Game. Harrisburg manager Matthew Lecroy will be the bench coach for the U.S. Team, while Nationals roving baserunning instructor Gary Thurman will be the team’s base coach and minor league medical/rehab coordinator John Kotredes wll serve as trainer. Sandy Martinez, manager of the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League Nationals, will serve as bullpen coach for the World Team.
Kieboom, 20, is batting .314 with 20 doubles, 13 homers, 53 RBIs, 42 walks, seven stolen bases and 57 runs in 77 games between high Single-A Potomac and Double-A Harrisburg.
Garcia, 18, was recently promoted to Potomac. He is batting .294 with 14 doubles, four triples, three homers, 31 RBIs, 21 walks, eight stolen bases and 50 runs in 80 games between low Single-A Hagerstown and Potomac. When Garcia made his debut in 2017, he was the second-youngest player in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League.
The 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures game will be played at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 at Nationals Park.
