Nats news & notes

Although the Nats fell to the Braves today 6-2, there were a couple of good things going on for Washington.

The play of the day -- a rarely seen 9-to-3 putout. Austin Kearns made a super throw from right field to throw out Martin Prado who it appeared had singled in the second. Prado didn’t hustle and Kearns did. Usually you see this happen to pitchers, not position players.

I enjoyed hearing the crowd roar even though it was a visitor who made the outstanding play.

Daniel Cabrera did something today he never did in an Orioles uniform; he collected a base hit! The former American League pitcher is looking forward to more of them this season. No doubt some extra work with Rick Eckstein will help!

Speaking of Eckstein, he made one young Nationals fan very happy when he tossed a baseball to a toddler playing on the outfield berm at Disney. Sometimes it’s those little things in life that just make your day!
