It was nice to visit with Nats LHP Matt Chico in Viera recently.
The promising lefty had his summer interrupted last season because of pain in his pitching arm. Now he’s trying to come back after having Tommy John surgery.
The Nats southpaw was a lock last spring for a spot in the starting rotation and now he’s enduring an uphill battle to salvage his professional pitching career.
When he was healthy, on the mound Matt Chico was very even keel...calm...cool and collected.
He told me he learned this from Hall of Famer Duke Snider who would often give him pointers on pitching.
I hope he continues to keep this demeanor as he travels on the comeback trail.
He can really help this club when he’s healthy.
He told me he hopes to come back this season.
He’ll stay in Viera for now and continue his rehabbing work, and we’ll touch base with him periodically to keep you updated on his progress.
