Familiar faces in Arizona

Old friend and former Nats closer Chad Cordero was sitting behind the Nationals dugout watching his former team defeat the Diamonbacks on Friday night.

Before the game, he renewed acquaintances with his former coaches, teammates and friends on the Nationals.

Chad, fondly known as “Chief”, signed with the Seattle Mariners in the offseason and he is still rehabbing his arm here in Arizona where the M’s have spring training.

He told me he is throwing and the good news is he feels great and hasn’t experienced any pain.

He’s also about to become a first-time daddy next month and he’s looking forward to the arrival of a new baby girl.

Meanwhile, his former bullpen buddy and teammate Ray King was sitting a row behind him at Chase Field. Ray is enjoying retirement and is pursuing more broadcasting opportunities. Last fall he did some television baseball analyst work. He did tell me he was offered a hockey gig, but he admitted he didn’t know enough about the sport to accept the position!
