Last month, Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez sat down with MASN’s Dan Kolko to discuss his upcoming Uncork for a Cause charity event on July 27, and what it means to be in a position to give back to his hometown.
Uncork for a Cause is an opportunity for professional athletes and celebrities to continue to be community leaders and to support charities that are close to their hearts. Originally established by TAG sports, the event is a one-of-a-kind experience with a fantastic selection of food and beverages, and a chance to make a difference for those in need.
This year’s Uncork for a Cause will benefit the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation and Gonzalez’s alma mater, the Hialeah High School Thoroughbreds baseball team, where he helped them win two Class 6A state championships in 2001 and 2002. Proceeds from the 2016 event helped provide the Thoroughbreds with new home and road uniforms, hats, and cleats.
From 7-9 p.m., Gonzalez and some of his teammates will gather at Teddy & The Bully Bar in Washington, D.C., for food, entertainment and the release of Gonzalez’s own 2014 Sonoma Reserve Red Wine.
In addition to the wine release, each guest will be able to take home a limited-edition bottle and bid on auction items such as game-used Nationals paraphernalia, bottles of wine from some of California’s best wineries and travel packages to wine country.
