Preseason round two: Washington Redskins

It’s the sixth time the Ravens and Redskins will meet in the preseason, but the first time they’ll get to see Donovan McNabb in a Skins’ jersey. Luckily, it’s the only time they’ll meet this year.

The last time the Ravens played a preseason game at Washington was in 2007, but the game was cut short in
the third quarter due to some nasty weather. But the game tonight looks like it’ll go all four which is good, because there’s plenty to watch for.

I said last week I like the kicking battles that have been going on the past two seasons. Shayne Graham and Billy Cundiff have had very similar camps and each week will be big for the kickers.

Also, the secondary will get a tough test facing McNabb. This will be Fabian Washington’s first game action in awhile and with Ed Reed still out, both Haruki Nakamura and Tom Zbikowski will see a lot of action. Also, Lardarius Webb is, in John Harbaugh’s words, very close to returning. Hopefully, the doctors will clear him for practice this week and we can see him by the regular season.

It’s hard to believe after all these years that it’s the defense that Ravens fans are most worried about. I’m just still not used to that being the case. It just doesn’t seem right, but the the truth is they have the most question marks. The offense seems geared up and ready to go and tonight they’ll get another chance to showcase what they’ve become.

They’ll probably only see a quarter or two, but that should be enough time to get their work in. And in the mean time Joe Flacco can practice at the shooting range.
