Boldin named Player of the Month by Sporting Generosity

Anquan Boldin has made a big impact on the field for the Ravens this season. But perhaps more importantly, Boldin has made an even bigger impact off the field and in the Baltimore community.

Finally, he’s getting some recognition.

Boldin was named December, 2010 Player of the Month by Sporting Generosity. His Q81 Foundation was one of the driving factor in this decision.

Boldin launched the foundation in 2004, and since then it has provided opportunities for youth to achieve a higher education. The Q81 Scholarship Fund has been a flagship program for the foundation and since 2004 has given out nine scholarships.

The annual Q-Fest festival is both the foundation’s largest fundraiser and community outreach program. The weekend-long event includes a charitable golf tournament, a celebrity basketball game and a “Fun Day in the Park” for the residents of Pahokee, Florida.

Between Boldin and Derrick Mason, who are teaming up for the sixth annual Holiday Helpers event at Target, the two have donated $10,000 to local charities.

Here’s the announcing statement which named Boldin December’s winner: “As we strive to achieve our mission, each month Sporting Generosity will identify an individual that has meant more to the sports world than his or her achievements on the court or field. This individual will have given back to the community by providing hope to a sick child, financial assistance to an underprivileged youth, or by becoming an advocate for a specific cause. These athletes are people who give back not out of obligation, but out of conviction in its necessity. With that said, please congratulate the December 2010 SG Player of the Month Anquan Boldin.”

They nailed it by giving Boldin this award. Especially around Christmas time people need help and Boldin, along with a lot of other Ravens, have stepped up.
