Flacco flashes it (Ravens win 48-17)

At the end of the first half, the Ravens hold a 13-3 lead over the Jaguars.

Save for one Jacksonville drive that ended with a Josh Scobee 25-yard field goal, Baltimore controlled play in the opening two quarters. The Ravens outgained their visitors 222-131, with much of that again coming through the air.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has taken another step forward this preseason, in part because he has wideout Torrey Smith back. He went 20-for-27 for 194 yards and a touchdown.

The end of the half wasn’t a real winner for Flacco, as he fumbled on a sack and then was intercepted on a heave on the final play before halftime.

Gotta think he’ll take the positives though, with six different receivers coming up with multiple catches, led by Smith’s five grabs for 56 yards.

Additionally, Justin Tucker made both of his kicks, including a 53-yarder that might’ve gone through from 10 yards farther.

Defensively, the first unit made the Jaguars look much like the same team that trudged through last season. Blaine Gabbert doesn’t look too hot, panicking at moments. But Justin Blackmon is a solid weapon. He has four catches for 72 yards, while tailback Rashad Jennings has accumulated 57 yards on the ground.

Still, the Ravens let Jacksonville reach the red zone just once. Plenty to like there. Let’s see if it continues into the second half.

Update: The Ravens’ red-zone issues don’t seem like an issue tonight. At all. They just rolled 80 yards down field on 11 plays in 4:43 with the drive highlighted by three Smith catches, including a 32-yarder.

Think Flacco missed him at all? He has eight receptions for 103 yards in his first game back. Is being worn out to the point that he practically crawled off the field after his last catch.

Flacco eluded a sack and connected with Vonta Leach, who avoided a tackle to score an 8-yard touchdown. That made it 20-3 about five minutes into the second quarter.

On a less uplifting note, Emanuel Cook went down on the ensuing kickoff coverage after being crushed by one of his teammates. He was just carted off.

Cook is having X-rays done on his right leg.

Cornerback Corey Graham (concussion) was just helped off the field. Injury bug all of a sudden?

Back to the first half, here’s what coach John Harbaugh had to say, courtesy of the Ravens: “We executed well in the first half and played sharply at times. The Jaguars had the one drive in the second quarter when our defense gave up some yards, but we came back with good red-zone defense and held them to a field goal.”

Update II: Flacco’s night is over. He went 27-for-36 for 266 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Nice outing.

He completed passes to nine different receivers. Tyrod Taylor is now in the game.

Additionally, Scobee just missed a field goal, knuckler off the left upright blocked by Pernell McPhee.

Update III: The Ravens lead 27-3 after three quarters. The second team came right in and marched down for a score. Taylor went 3-for-3 for 50 yards on the drive, ending it with an 8-yard touchdown pass to LaQuan Williams, who wrestled the ball away from Antonio Dennard.

Update IV: Taylor strikes again, this time for a 5-yard touchdown run, increasing Baltimore’s lead to 34-3 in the fourth quarter.

Update V: Taylor passes to Bobby Rainey for a 48-yard touchdown after a pick-six for the Jaguars. The Ravens lead 41-10 after their fifth touchdown drive of 80 yards or more.
