The Ravens won’t have to take on the streaking Broncos without their top linebacker after all.
Terrell Suggs is expected to play today after sitting out last Sunday’s loss to the Redskins because of torn biceps, according to ESPN and the NFL Network.
Ray Lewis will not suit up the first game he’s eligible to return, however. The team did not activate him from injured reserve Saturday, and he’ll have to wait at least one more week to come back from his torn triceps.
Update: The good news? Cornerback Jimmy Smith is back in uniform for the Ravens after missing five games following sports hernia surgery.
The bad news? The Ravens will be severely short-handed against the Broncos with several starters inactive. Safety Bernard Pollard, linebacker Jameel McClain, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, offensive lineman Marshal Yanda and tight end Ed Dickson are all out.
Offensive lineman Ramon Harewood and wideout Deonte Thompson are also inactive.
McClain is out with a neck injury. Ellerbe (ankle) and Dickson (knee) both will miss their third consecutive game.
Yanda sits out his first game since spraining his right ankle against the Redskins. Pollard misses his first game of the year with a chest injury.
Brendon Ayanbadejo is expected to start at linebacker in place of Ellerbe. Josh Bynes is expected to start at linebacker for McClain.
James Ihedigbo is slated to start in Pollard’s spot at safety. Bobbie Williams is expected to start at right guard in Yanda’s absence.
Inactive for the Broncos: quarterback Caleb Hanie, wideout Andre Caldwell, cornerback Tracy Porter, running back Lance Ball, guard Chris Kuper, tight end Julius Thomas and nose tackle Sealver Siliga.
Manny Ramirez will start at right guard for Kuper.
