Pregame notes from the new Meadowlands

I’ll say this about the new Meadowlands Stadium - John Harbaugh wasn’t lying when he said it looked like a spaceship.

This place is huge and it has a very futuristic look to it, both from the outside and once you’ve stepped onto the concourse.

Maybe it’s because both the Jets and Giants have to play their home games here, so they couldn’t give it any team-specific color inside. The entire stadium is various shades of grey, which doesn’t exactly give much character to the vibe.

But I don’t want to sound like I’m bashing the Jets’ new digs; it’s a really nice, state of the art stadium. And boy, do they have some fantastic mashed potatoes here in the press box.

Lardarius Webb - who is listed as probable with a knee injury - is currently running around doing some agility drills on the field, but don’t take that to mean that he’s playing tonight. Ed Reed has been doing the same agility drills, and as we know, he’s on the Physically Unable to Perform list and won’t be suiting up tonight.

There are a bunch of reunions going on around the 50-yard-line right now, as the players (and coaches) that have been talking trash all week now meet up to say their pregame hellos.

No sign of Jets coach Rex Ryan yet, but defensive backs coach Mark Carrier (who came to New York with Ryan) has been walking around saying hi to some of his former players.

Jarret Johnson and Haloti Ngata spent some time talking with Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, who was outside linebackers coach with the Ravens from 2005 until he left prior to last season.

The Ravens will wear their purple jerseys and white pants tonight. We’re about 10 minutes from getting the inactives, which I’ll obviously pass along as soon as I get them.

Get ready for some football, folks.
