Reed named AFC Defensive Player of the Month

Following his two-interception performance in the Ravens’ regular-season finale against the Bengals, safety Ed Reed has been named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Month for December/January.

Yes, that’s kind of clunky, having a player of the month for two months, but you get the idea.

Overall, in the five games played in December and January, Reed registered 22 tackles and an NFL-best four interceptions.

Reed, who also made the Pro Bowl this season and won the NFL’s interception title, had back-to-back games with two interceptions in Weeks 16 and 17.

This is Reed’s third Player of the Month award. He most recently won it in December 2008.

He’s been strong late in the year over his career, posting 21 interceptions in December/January since entering the league in 2002. That’s the most in the league during that span.

Reed is the second Raven to win the award this season; Terrell Suggs won it in November, giving the Ravens consecutive Player of the Month awards.
