Head coach John Harbaugh said that Smith is in a boot and on crutches, and will now be out the next few games.
"He does have a high ankle sprain, so that's going to be a few weeks," Harbaugh said. "We just have to see how it plays out. Hopefully he's a quick healer."
As I mentioned earlier, high ankle sprains generally take longer to heal than those of the low variety.
The injury came, unfortunately enough, on the first play of Smith's pro career. He was on kickoff coverage after the Ravens' touchdown on the opening drive of the game, and got caught up trying to make the tackle.
Smith limped off the field with assistance from the training staff, and went into the locker room almost immediately.
"That was a tough one," Harbaugh said. "First kickoff, he runs down there, he was fighting like crazy, and he gets caught up in the pile."
