Ngata probable, Grubbs questionable for Sunday night

After missing two practices this week, Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata is listed as probable for this Sunday night’s game against the Steelers.

Ngata sat out Wednesday and Thursday’s practices with a thigh injury, but he returned in a limited capacity today.

Head coach John Harbaugh said today that Ngata’s injury isn’t anything that should impact the defensive tackle long-term, and he was optimistic that Ngata would be able to suit up Sunday.

“He did more today,” Harbaugh said. “It’s nothing real serious or anything like that. He’s fighting through it and it’s kind of a mid-season type deal.”

Meanwhile, after being limited in practice this whole week, left guard Ben Grubbs is listed as questionable for the Pittsburgh game. Grubbs has been dealing with a lingering toe injury, and while Harbaugh said the Ravens have their fingers crossed Grubbs will be able to play Sunday, the five-year veteran didn’t sound like he’s ready for game action just yet.

“I made it through three practices and I’m still walking, so that’s a blessing,” Grubbs said today. “Really, I wouldn’t say it’s a game-time decision. It’s up to the coaches, whatever they decide. I know they want me out there and I want to be out there, but the last thing I want to do is hurt the team. (Andre Gurode) has been doing a great job, and we’ve been winning with him. I guess we’ll know come Sunday at 8:30. I don’t want to give a definite answer on anything. I really won’t know until gametime.”

As expected, wide receiver Lee Evans (ankle) and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (hamstring) have been ruled out for Sunday.

Along with Grubbs, wide receiver/kick returner David Reed (knee), running back Anthony Allen (thigh) and cornerback Chykie Brown (knee) are questionable.

Center Matt Birk (neck) and cornerback Danny Gorrer (thigh) join Ngata in the “probable” category.

For the Steelers, linebacker LaMarr Woodley (hamstring), guard Doug Legursky (toe) and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (knee) have been ruled out.

Linebacker James Farrior (calf) and wide receiver Hines Ward (ankle) were limited in practice all week and are questionable for Sunday’s game, as is punter Daniel Sepulveda (right knee), who was limited today.

Surprisingly, linebacker James Harrison (eye) was a full participant in today’s practice and is listed as probable. Reserve offensive tackle Jonathan Scott (ankle) is also probable.
