During a pregame interview with the NFL Network, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said that his injured toe is still hurting him, and he felt it was best to rest up in the hopes of being able to play next Sunday against the Browns.
Lewis estimated his current health at about “80-85 percent”, and said he was concerned that if he played tonight, he could injure the toe further.
“There’s a large amount of pain in there,” Lewis said.
Since the Ravens play on Thursday this week, they will have three extra days to recover prior to next Sunday’s game against Cleveland. Lewis cited that extra time as a key factor in deciding to sit out tonight’s game.
Lewis called reports that his toe injury could end his season or possibly his career “terrible”.
With Lewis and fellow inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (hamstring) both out tonight, special teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo will get bumped into the starting lineup against the 49ers.
