Bergy on Bergy (updated twice)

Mike Gonzalez walked the first batter he faced on four pitches, and Don Kelly smacked a two-run homer to give Detroit the lead. But Robert Andino hit a two-run shot off the batters eye in center in the bottom of the seventh.

Orioles 9, Tigers 8.

Andino connected off Ryan Perry for his second homer (three if you count the first intrasquad game.)

Brad Bergesen said he was "out of whack" today.

"That was very evident," he said. "I never really felt like I got in a groove. Just started throwing pitches up there without really knowing what I wanted to do. They beat me today. There's not a whole lot to it. A positive about it is you get to hit the restart button in about a week. Hopefully, I can take my lumps now and bounce back from that.

"I left a couple balls up today and I paid for it in a big way. Two of the home runs they hit were bad pitches. One of them I actually felt like I made a good pitch and he made a good swing on it. Other than that, I didn't make my pitches today, left too many balls up in the zone, worked behind too many guys and paid for it.

"I caught myself a couple of times working too fast. I know Kranny told me he thought at times I was almost pushing the ball and that usually is from me rushing, so I think it definitely was a little bit today."

At least he has his health.

"I am very, very happy with where I am at at this point health-wise," Bergesen said. "There was a time in late December and into January where I didn't know what it was going to be. My arm hurt so bad I couldn't even throw a ball 25 feet away. So compared to where I was, it's a great thing at this point."

Update: Robert Andino misplayed a popup at second base with two outs in the eighth, letting the ball fall for a hit as the tying run scored off Will Ohman. That's the first run off Ohman in 10 exhibition games. Ohman walked two batters in the inning, so he shares the blame.

Update II: Alex Avila's single off Ross Wolf in the top of the ninth gave Detroit a 10-9 lead.
