On Garrett Atkins: “Is willing to work. Likes it. Has been early in the cage with Crow. Looks comfortable at first base. He’s going to be a good player for us. It’s a new league, but he’s played first base before. Probably not on an everyday basis, but that’s what he’ll do here.”
On playing an intrasquad game: “It’s another phase of the routine. It’s a dry run. Obviously, there are some things we can do better. There are still some kinks to work out, so it was good to have this one today.”
The Orioles didn’t do Luis Lebron any favors with three straight errors behind him, but you can see why he’s regarded as a prospect. He really brings the heat, and his slider is a plus pitch. He also has a quality changeup that he needs to use more, from what I’ve been told.
Brian Matusz raved about Lebron earlier today without being prodded (and you can imagine how painful that would be). I may revisit that topic with him tomorrow if he’s available.
