The Orioles named Single-A Delmarva shortstop Manny Machado the organization's Player of the Month for April, and Double-A Bowie right-hander Wynn Pelzer the Pitcher of the Month.
Machado batted .338 (27-for-80) in 21 games, with six doubles, two triples, four home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He walked 16 times and struck out 11 times.
Pelzer, who was acquired last summer from the Padres in the Miguel Tejada trade, was 1-1 with a 0.95 ERA in five games, including three starts. He allowed two earned runs, nine hits and nine walks, and struck out 17 over 19 innings. Opponents batted .150.
Seattle's Michael Pineda was named the American League's Rookie of the Month for April after going 4-1 with a 2.01 ERA over five starts. He beat out Zach Britton, who was 4-1 with a 2.84 ERA.
