Postgame Showalter following 9-3 win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - I'm racing out of here to drop off my rental car and catch my flight back to Baltimore, but I wanted to pass along a little postgame Buck Showalter for you.

On Jake Arrieta:
"He had great stuff early. Hopefully, he'll get to a point where he can kind of maximize his pitches a little bit more and get deeper. He had a great fastball today."

On J.J. Hardy's grand slam:
"You're going to need it against any club and especially here in their ballpark. There were a lot of big plays. I thought Matt's throw-out at second base stopped a lot of momentum. A lot of things. A lot of good at-bats put together. It was a good win for us."

On the rotation turning in six straight quality starts:
"It's what they're capable of, and I think the more they do it and the more that they see their teammates do it, they get a feel for the job expectations and the job description."

I'll pass along quotes from Arrieta and Hardy once I'm at the airport or back home.
