Pregame notes, Machado and Clark honored

The Orioles are seeking their 14th victory of the season tonight after not winning their 14th game in 2010 until May 21. Their next road victory will be their seventh after not winning their seventh road game in 2010 until June 15.

The Orioles are going for their first sweep of a four-game set on Chicago’s South Side since July 6-9, 1995. Their last four-game sweep was July 8-11, 2010 at Texas.

The Orioles are 14-6 against the American League Central under manager Buck Showalter, winning all but one of the five series.

The Orioles have won five of their last six games. A victory tonight would give them six wins in a seven-game span for the second time this season. It would be the fourth time under Showalter, an 82-game span, that the Orioles had a stretch where they won six of seven or better.

The Orioles are 6-5 after 11 road games, their best road mark through 11 games since 2005, when they started 9-2.

The Orioles have scored 78 runs in their 13 victories (6.0 runs per game) and 32 runs in their 13 losses (2.5 runs per game).

Luke Scott is batting .391 (9-for-23) with a double, three homers, six RBIs and five runs scored in his last six games since April 24. He’s homered in three of his last four games.

Single-A Delmarva shortstop Manny Machado has been named the South Atlantic League’s Player of the Week for April 25-May 1. Machado batted .480 (12-for-25) with two doubles, five homers, 12 RBIs and seven runs scored. He posted five multi-hit games last week. Machado didn’t homer in his first 59 at-bats, but he’s homered five times in his last 25 at-bats.

Double-A Bowie right-hander Zach Clark has been named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Week for April 25-May 1. Clark was 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts.
