Waiting on the first hit (and there it is)

The 104-degree temperature hasn’t heated up the Orioles’ bats.

Angels starter Ervin Santana has allowed one baserunner in five innings, and it wasn’t his fault. Luke Scott reached on second baseman Maicer Izturis’ error with two outs in the second.

Right fielder Torii Hunter made an outstanding running catch to rob Derrek Lee of an extra-base hit in the fifth inning. It looked like a double when it left Lee’s bat, but Hunter sprinted toward the line, reached out and made the grab.

Santana threw 60 pitches through five innings.

Alfredo Simon is shutting out the Angels as we head to the bottom of the sixth. He’s retired the side in order only twice, allowing four hits, walking one and hitting a batter.

Scott is wincing every time he swings the bat, and he’s grabbed his right shoulder a few times. He’s in obvious pain.

Instant update: Blake Davis doubled to left field with one out in the sixth. Santana won’t make history.
