Wieters’ homer extends O’s lead (O’s win 12-5)

Matt Wieters hit a three-run homer off Yankees reliever Luis Ayala in the bottom of the sixth inning.

It’s been that kind of night.

Wieters has 14 homers and 50 RBIs this season.

Alex Rodriguez hit a solo homer off Tommy Hunter in the top of the seventh, and Nick Swisher just added a two-run shot. Still no outs and pitching coach Rick Adair is visiting the mound.

Swisher’s ball is the 57th to land on Eutaw Street, and the 33rd by an opponent. Estimated distance: 412 feet.

Hunter retired the next three batters while Willie Eyre warmed in the bullpen.

Update: Hunter is charged with four runs and five hits in seven innings, with no walks, four strikeouts, three home runs and one hit batter. He threw 91 pitches, 68 for strikes.

Update II: Eyre gave up a run in the top of the eighth, but Jim Johnson tossed a perfect ninth. The Orioles extended their winning streak to five games, tying their season high, with a 12-5 victory.
