Tonight's pitchers: Guthrie vs. Davis

RHP Jeremy Guthrie (10-16, 5.10) tonight will make his 32nd start of this season, his 16th on the road and the 9th of his career vs. Tampa.

Guthrie is 0-3, 6.38 over his past three starts. This follows a four-start stretch where he went 3-1, 1.33.

Guthrie is the AL leader in losses, earned runs and homers allowed with 32.

RHP Wade Davis (1-1, 4.07) tonight makes his 5th Major League start of this season, his 3rd at home and his 2nd of the year vs. the Orioles.

Davis pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout vs. the Orioles in Baltimore on September 17.

Davis spent most of this year with Triple-A Durham, until his recent callup. In 28 starts in the minors, he went 10-8, 3.40 in 158 2/3 innings. With Durham, he allowed 2ER or less in 19 of 28 starts.

He was first in the International League in innings, 2nd in strikeouts and 9th in ERA.
On September 6th, Davis made his Major League debut vs. Detroit and gave up just one run and three hits over seven innings with nine strikeouts.

On September 12 at Boston, Davis allowed six hits and eight runs over 2 2/3 innings. He has given up just 3ER over 21 2/3 in his other three starts.

In two home starts, the 24-year-old is 0-0, 2.13.

When Davis shutout the Orioles on the 17th, he pitched out of a bases-loaded, none out jam in the first. He walked two and fanned ten, throwing 124 pitches.

In the International League this season, Davis made four starts vs. the Orioles' Norfolk affiliate and went 1-1, 3.79 in 19 innings.

A third-round draft pick in 2004, Davis' career minor league numbers are 51-39, 3.28. He averaged 8.74 strikeouts per nine innings in his minor league career.
