Tonight's pitchers: Guthrie vs. Richmond

RHP Jeremy Guthrie (10-15, 5.05) tonight will make his 31st start of this season, his 15th on the road and the 10th in his career vs. Toronto.

Guthrie has lost his last two starts vs. New York and Boston, giving up 8ER over 11 1/3 innings. In his four previous starts, he went 3-1, 1.33.

So, over his last six starts, he is 3-3, 2.82.

Despite the improved pitching recently, Guthrie leads the Major Leagues with 15 losses and leads the American League in runs allowed and homers.

Right-handed batters hit .271 vs. Guthrie, while lefties hit .292 and have 20 homers off Guthrie. The Orioles are 11-19 when he starts, including a 6-8 mark on road starts.

RHP Scott Richmond (6-10, 5.31) tonight makes his 22nd start of the year, his 10th at home and the 3rd of his career vs. Baltimore.

Richmond has allowed 11ER over 6 1/3 in his last two starts. Over his last five starts, he is 0-3, 10.88 (27ER in 22 1/3IP).

The Canadian native is winless, 0-6, over his last nine starts, since beating the Reds on June 24th.

Richmond is the 6th Canadian native to pitch for the Blue Jays. He pitched for Canada in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Richmond is 4th in the AL in opponents swinging at the first pitch. They do that 30.4 percent of the time.
