Millwood finally gets one

Kevin Millwood is finally a winner in 2010.

Wonder how his stomach was feeling in that last of the ninth. It had the look of many others that got away from the Orioles this year and the latest was in that park just last night.

But Alfredo Simon stranded the tie run at third as he picked up the final two outs, and, even though he gave up a run in the ninth, the O's got a 5-4 win to even the series.

Millwood, after giving up three runs in the first with the help of a botched rundown that kept the inning alive, pitched five scoreless after that. If any pitcher deserved to get a win finally, it was him.

After 14 starts last year, Millwood had seven wins for Texas.

Now all he needs is two more to tie for the lead in wins among O's starters.

O's starting pitcher wins in 2010:
*Arrieta: 2 wins, 2 starts
*Bergesen: 3 wins, 10 starts
*Guthrie: 3 wins, 14 starts
*Hendrickson: 0 wins, 1 start
*Hernandez: 1 win, 8 starts
*Matusz: 2 wins, 14 starts
*Millwood: 1 win in 15 starts
*Tillman: 0 wins, 4 starts

Millwood's win was just the 12th by an O's starter this year and just the 3rd by a starter (two by Arrieta) over the last 21 games.

Fewest wins by starters, AL:
12 - Orioles
17 - Seattle
19 - KC
21 - Cleveland & Detroit

Most wins by starters, AL:
35 - Yankees
34 - Red Sox
33 - Rays

Now the O's have a chance to win just their third series of the year and their first road series of 2010 behind Jake Arrieta on Sunday afternoon.
