Mountcastle-Fielding-Keys-Sidebar.jpgAt this point, we know of three players who will begin the year on the minor league disabled list. They include third baseman Ryan Mountcastle, who starts the year on the Bowie DL. Mountcastle was injured when hit by a pitch in a minors exhibition March 14. He suffered a hairline fracture in his right hand. At the time of time of the injury, the timeline for his return was said to be four to six weeks. Mountcastle is rated as the No. 71 prospect by Baseball America and No. 98 by MLBPipeline.com. He will continue his rehab in Florida when the minor league seaon begins.

Lefty Chris Lee will begin the year on the Norfolk DL with a strained right oblique. Lee was pitching for the Orioles against the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte Feb. 27 when he walked off the mound after just two pitches. A few days later he was officially optioned to Norfolk.

Right-hander Eddie Gamboa is going on the Norfolk DL with a strained right forearm. He has missed a lot of time in minors camp.

Many players will begin the season in Florida at extended spring training. The Orioles have about 60 players for that camp.
