Marquis to have elbow surgery

Right-hander Jason Marquis, who was placed on the 15-day disabled on April 21 with loose bone chips in his right elbow, will have arthroscopic elbow surgery in Cincinnati on Friday with Dr. Tim Kremchek, and is expected to miss two months.

Marquis made his first rehab start at Single-A Potomac last night, and felt elbow discomfort after that. The Nationals made the decision on Wednesday to go ahead with surgery, rather than sticking to the original plan of letting Marquis stay on a throwing program following a cortisone shot last month.

The 32-year-old, who signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Nationals in the offseason, is expected to be out until early August.
